Fort Carson Leaders, Educators Gather to Discuss Opportunities

Colorado National Guard

Senior leaders from and administrators from Colorado鈥檚 colleges and universities are meeting today to discuss educational opportunities for wounded soldiers, and those preparing to leave the military.

As the Army downsizes鈥-and more troops come home from Afghanistan鈥 Col. Robert McLaughlin, Garrison Commander of Fort Carson Army Post, says a key focus must be weaving together educational and job placement opportunities for veterans.

鈥淓ducation, transition, employment, all of this ties together to limit stress on soldiers in transition as we downsize our Army,鈥 he says.

McLaughlin says Fort Carson isn鈥檛 leaving military spouses out of the employment picture, either. Last week, Fort Carson Army Post signed a charter agreement with businesses like Home Depot and Lowe鈥檚 to give that group access to jobs as well.
