Fort Collins could join a growing list of communities along the Front Range where voters are deciding at the ballot box whether to limit or ban hydraulic fracturing 鈥� or fracking.
The group handed in 8,052 signatures Monday in an attempt to get a 5-year moratorium placed on the November ballot.

鈥淭here鈥檚 definitely a citizen's movement afoot,鈥� said campaign organizer Kelly Giddens. 鈥淎s far as Fort Collins goes, this represents a resounding show of support from the families of Fort Collins who want to protect their public health, safety and property values.鈥�
The Fort Collins city clerk has five business days to verify the signatures. City of Fort Collins council members passed a ban last spring, but then so the only operating oil and gas company in the city could resume operations.
