Northern Colorado cycling enthusiasts have until the end of June to raise the money needed to host one stage of this year’s .
Organizers of the 2013 event announced the official route in April – and it includes a day riding through northern Colorado.
A community group called put together the successful bid to land that portion of the route. The group is comprised of local tourism experts and cycling enthusiasts who wanted to see cities like Loveland, Windsor, Estes Park and Fort Collins on the route for the first time.
But their work is just beginning, says publisher Jeff Nuttall.
"The group is now working to find sponsors for the local portion of the race," Nuttall says. "They still need another $300,000 to add to contributions from all four cities included in the route, and the Fort Collins Convention and Visitors Bureau, who committed the money before the route was announced."
The cost to bring the race to northern Colorado is roughly $550,000. Nuttall says the group hasn’t yet released the names of any sponsors, but should be making an announcement within the next few weeks. They're trying to get sponsorships secured by the end of June.
